Maison Perrier Brings ‘French Girl Summer’ to Rent the Runway

If America runs on coffee, fashion runs on sparkling water — just look at the bottom of any insider’s bag during fashion week for the half-drank proof.

Well, it seems the love affair goes both ways as Maison Perrier has partnered with Rent the Runway to curate its first clothing capsule, dubbed “French Girl Summer.”

The collection of over 100 pieces draws on Maison Perrier’s Gallic heritage dating back to 1863 when Napoleon III granted a decree allowing water from the Les Bouillens spring in Vergèze to be commercially bottled. Thus, regional contemporary labels like Maje, Sandro and Claudie Pierlot are featured prominently, allowing anyone to cosplay Jane Birkin, if only for a limited time.

Dropping June 15, the edit will be available for one month in the Rent the Runway app and online at Renttherunway.com. And as a purchasing bonus, Maison Perrier coupons will be included with each order, coming in handy should customers need to re-hydrate while trying on outfits.

“You can’t think about French culture and lifestyle without thinking about style inherently, so it’s a big content territory for us,” said Maison Perrier’s brand manager Kaitlyn Wood. “What we bring is this elevated, refreshing moment to the masses and Rent the Runway really stands for that: elevated everyday accessibility.”

Earlier this week, WWD reported the rental platform drove earnings up nearly 30 percent in the first quarter, due in part to its targeted merchandising efforts and increased focus on brand deals. It recently brought to life wardrobes inspired by “The Devil Wears Prada 2” and Netflix’s “Running Point,” but because this one involved a premium beverage maker, celebratory drinks seemed fitting. So, on Wednesday, Maison Perrier toasted their collaboration during a press preview at the Rhymer’s Club in the East Village.

Guests were invited to browse racks brimming with toile de Jouy and tweed while sipping custom carbonated spritzes. Color season analysts were available to give readings on-site alongside a build-your-own accessory bar complete with Maison Perrier scarves and bag charms.

Wood, wearing an emerald knit polo dress from the collection, was eager to rent Vanessa Bruno’s cotton eyelet frock, also in Maison Perrier’s signature green. “We tried to infuse some pops of it to tie back to our iconic branding,” she said.

“I’m more of a dress girl, but I think we have a lot of good day-to-night separates, too,” Wood added. After all, capturing that French je ne sais quoi is “about effortlessness. A lot of times, it can be as simple as a white T-shirt, jeans, and a pop of red lipstick.”
