Almost 300,000 Ukrainians employed in Germany, three years into war

Almost 300,000 Ukrainians are employed in Germany, the Federal Employment Agency said on Wednesday, shortly before the third anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Figures from November 2024 show that 296,000 Ukrainians were working in Germany, up from around 65,000 before the war began in February 2022.

The data suggests that almost a quarter of the 1.25 million Ukrainians living in Germany in October 2024 according to figures from the Federal Statistical Agency were employed.

Ukrainian residents work primarily in the manufacturing sector, trade, health care and social services, construction and catering, the report said.

Some 211,000 Ukrainians were unemployed in Germany in November 2024, while 98,000 were taking part in integration courses.

An additional 29,000 Ukrainians were taking language courses linked to employment and 21,000 were on employment programmes, the report found.
