Fireworks event’s new date after storm cancels show

A new date has been set for the cancelled World Fireworks Championships in Blackpool.

Team India were due to stage their free display on 13 September, but it was called off at the last minute due to a thunderstorm.

A new date has now been set for 26 September, with Ukraine’s display on the following night.

Councillor Lynn Williams, leader of Blackpool Council, said it “promises to be a spectacular series of displays”.

This year the championships have a new format, which will culminate in the Champions of Champions being crowned.
