Stock Market LIVE: GIFT Nifty signals negative open; Most Asian markets fall; Brent tops $90
Most Asian markets declined in early trading as US Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh’s hawkish comments at the Jackson Hole Symposium raised concerns about a possible rate hike as soon as next month. Japan’s Nikkei 225 and South Korea’s Kospi were trading 1.8 per cent and 2.4 per cent down, respectively.
Last Friday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 ended 0.02 per cent and 0.3 per cent down, respectively. The Nasdaq Composite settled 0.52 per cent lower.
Oil prices extended gains on Monday morning after the US hit Iranian rocket launchers as they were preparing to send mines to the Strait of Hormuz, ending weeks of relative calm. The September futures were quoted at $90.35, up 2.34 per cent.
Gold and silver futures were trading 0.85 per cent and 133 per cent down, respectively.
