Bad Bunny Approves of Ballerina Shoes for Men With Dries Van Noten Slippers at ‘Happy Gilmore 2’ Premiere

Bad Bunny helped promote the trend of ballet flats for men at the premiere of “Happy Gilmore 2” in New York City on Monday, as he displayed a pair of slip-on flats from Dries Van Noten alongside his formal, golf-ready Valentino look.

The 31-year-old hitmaker, who plays the character Oscar in the sequel to the 1996 cult classic comedy “Happy Gilmore,” modeled a pair of flat black leather slippers with a balletic curved vamp. Also contributing to the dancer-esque quality of the shoes were straps crossing in an X shape at the top of the foot. He styled the shoes with white crew socks, which contributed to his preppy aesthetic.

Bunny’s premiere attire included a navy plaid double-breasted blazer from Valentino, which pointed toward the film’s golf focus, and contrasting patterned Bermuda shorts from the same brand. He accessorized with brown-tinted sunglasses and a hat reading “I was on stage last night.”

The singer, embracing a ballet footwear look, is adjacent to Will Sharpe, who donned mary janes for the premiere of “Too Much” in June, belonging to a larger trend of blurring gender expectations in fashion, as men are willing to explore more traditionally feminine silhouettes.

Dries Van Noten isn’t the only brand that has created men’s shoes veering from the traditionally masculine. Dior presented ballet flats for men in its fall 2024 collection and Balenciaga did the same in its summer 2023 collection.

It’s well documented that ballet-inspired shoes of various silhouettes are in right now, and Bad Bunny was already part of the wave — his collaboration with Adidas has produced a sneaker called the Ballerina, fitting in with the ballet sneaker trend that became extremely popular this spring.

At the premiere, Bad Bunny posed with lead actor Adam Sandler, who maintained his signature aesthetic with a tropical shirt, Nike shorts and Nike sneakers.
