In the Age of Freaky Footwear, Toe Rings Are Getting Bolder
Toe rings have long been one of fashion’s most polarizing accessories. Even in their Y2K heyday, they were as beloved as they were divisive. Now, as accessories embrace maximalism from head to toe — quite literally — toe rings are returning in statement-making form, with diamonds and gemstones once reserved for fingers, chunkier silhouettes, and stacked styles that span multiple toes.
Brands from Celine to Chan Luu and Collina Strada are embracing statement toe jewelry to capture summer’s playful, more-is-more mood. Among them is Julietta, which recently teamed up with Nodaleto on a summer collaboration featuring a toe ring that gives engagement ring status. Featuring a marquise-cut red Swarovski crystal set in chunky gold-tone hardware, the design signals just how far the category has evolved from the delicate bands that once defined it.
Style insiders are following suit, extending their jewelry wardrobes to the feet with diamond and gemstone toe rings — some resembling cocktail rings, others worthy of engagement-ring comparisons. Even when paired with minimalist flip-flops, the look is designed to command attention.

“I think people are becoming more intentional about how they accessorize. Instead of following rules about where jewelry belongs, they’re looking for new ways to express themselves through the details,” Juliana Liden, founder of Julietta, told WWD. “A toe ring feels unexpected, and that’s exactly what makes it interesting. It’s a small detail that can completely change the way someone experiences an entire look.”
That small detail, however, is evolving into more expansive territory. “Historically, toe rings have been delicate and understated. We wanted to approach them with the same design intention as any other piece of jewelry,” Liden said. “For this collection, we thought about the foot as part of the overall silhouette. We used sculptural forms, bold proportions and vibrant stones to create pieces that feel expressive rather than ornamental. They’re designed to be noticed, but never in an obvious way.”
Accessories have been multiplying across the body for seasons now. Ring stacking has become a jewelry staple, from everyday layers to elaborate wedding stacks. The foot, it seems, was simply the next frontier.

In an era of freaky and “ugly” shoes turned fashion statements —from Vibram FiveFingers to Chanel’s barely-there sole-less sandals —statement toe rings feel like a natural extension. Chunky domes, oversized gemstones and stacks spanning multiple toes aren’t about shock value so much as they’re about expanding the canvas for self-expression. Whether a cocktail-ring-sized diamond belongs on a toe is beside the point. As fashion continues to reject old styling rules in favor of personality and play, toe rings are no longer an afterthought — they’re becoming the statement.
