Israel offers to help Germany pursue Iran’s Revolutionary Guard

Israel has offered to support German and other European security authorities in pursuing Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) following the European Union’s decision to designate the group as a terrorist organization.

“Israel is ready to cooperate with European security authorities to consistently combat the terrorist wing of the mullah regime across Europe,” Israeli Ambassador to Berlin Ron Prosor told dpa.

“The regime is in dire straits. We must not abandon the courageous demonstrators in Iran now,” he said.

Prosor praised the role of German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt in pushing for the terrorist designation on Iran’s most powerful military unit, saying he had been “particularly committed” to the issue.

“For far too long, the Revolutionary Guard Corps has been able to use Germany and Europe as a safe haven for money laundering, drug trafficking and arms dealing. That has now come to an end.”

The IRGC was added to the EU’s terrorist list on Thursday over its violent crackdown on anti-government protests in Iran.

According to Germany’s latest domestic intelligence report, the IRGC’s covert Quds Force is active in Germany.

In a 2023 response by the German government to a parliamentary inquiry, authorities said the group’s “extensive espionage activities” were directed in particular against “[pro-]Israeli and [pro-]Jewish targets.”

The government also cited procurement activities by the IRGC through front companies and intermediaries.
