Israel says it is supplying Germany with kerosene
Israel is supplying Germany with kerosene amid the energy crisis, the Israeli government said on Tuesday.
The deliveries were being made at the request of Germany’s Energy Ministry and in response to the “crisis in the Strait of Hormuz,” Israel’s Foreign Ministry and Energy Ministry said in a statement.
Foreign Minister Gideon Saar informed German Economy and Energy Minister Katherina Reiche of the move during his visit to Berlin, the statement said.
There was initially no confirmation from the German government.
German Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder recently told the Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland (RND) media group that kerosene shortages were not an issue for Germany, saying there were enough refineries capable of producing the fuel.
Germany’s National Security Council also discussed in April the energy crisis triggered by the Iran war. Participants later said kerosene stocks had been considered sufficient “for the foreseeable future.”
However, officials were aware of the “tense situation” and would continue to closely monitor developments.
The price of kerosene has more than doubled since the start of the Iran war in late February. Experts have warned of possible shortages in Germany.
