The Sheer Trend Takes Center Stage at the Vanity Fair 2026 Oscar Party

Some played it safe, others bared it all at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party on Sunday night in Beverly Hills, following the 98th annual awards ceremony, held at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

Among those who went the risky route, bringing sheer fashion to the silver carpet, were “Heated Rivalry” heartthrobs Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie, Zoe Saldaña, Rita Ora, Mamie Gummer and Lizzo. Many of these see-through designs were plucked from the runways of Tamara Ralph and Yara Shoemaker, as well as Saint Laurent and Balenciaga.

Ahead, WWD spotlights the top sheer moments from the decorated party.

Saldaña’s Saint Laurent stint continued on Sunday night’s silver carpet, where she donned a long-sleeved lace dress in a shimmering shade of royal blue. The design, which finished well above her knees, was crafted by creative director Anthony Vaccarello and styled by Petra Flannery. Together, Flannery and Saldaña accessorized the square-neck dress with beige slingbacks.

Though Storrie was absent for the 98th annual Academy Awards, he made quite the entrance at the after party, wearing a formfitting, mesh turtleneck top by Saint Laurent. The newly appointed brand ambassador paired the brown top with mid-waist trousers, Tiffany & Co. diamonds and a fur throw.

Next to Storrie was his Hockey Smut costar Williams, dressed in a translucent black Balenciaga tank adorned with a long necktie that followed him as he walked across the silver carpet. With the help of his stylist Anastasia Walker, Williams embellished the delicate top with Bulgari earrings and square-toed shoes by Christian Louboutin.

Alison Brie

Styled by Erin Walsh, Alison Brie injected new life into a black bustier gown from the Yara Shoemaker spring 2026 couture runway. The floor-length dress featured a beaded sheer skirt with a satin bodice overlay and a seashell bra poking through. Attached to the satin corset was a long train, which pooled over the silver floor behind her. For accessories, Walsh paired the sultry design with Dolce and Gabbana shoes, Simon G. jewels and a Roger Vivier clutch.

Mamie Gummer

Gummer donned a mature version of the 2025 naked dress in a sheer net gown layered over a nude slip. The fragile design featured long sleeves and a slim skirt, which covered her feet completely.

Lizzo

Styled in a Marilyn Monroe-inspired bob, Lizzo wore a brown lace gown with ruffled detailing and a mini cutout in her midsection. The tulle dress covered her arms and legs, stopping just below her ankles, above a pair of matching pointed-toe pumps. Last year, the singer opted for a black funnel gown by Christian Siriano.

Alessandra Ambrosio

Alessandra Ambrosio arrived at the after party dripping in crystals and painted in Pantone’s color of the year, Cloud Dancer. Styled by Heather Smith, the Brazilian model wore a corset top with a peek-a-boo bra over a translucent embroidered skirt. Ambrosio accessorized with a quiet ponytail and her partner, Buck Palmer.

From red hot to barely-there black, Renate Reinsve changed into a gothic gown by Louis Vuitton for the Oscars after party. Designed by Nicolas Ghesquière and styled by Karla Welch, the mesh, long-sleeve dress featured visible stitching and opaque fabric along her chest and underwear lines. Her hair was combed neatly behind her shoulders, revealing a three-tiered diamond choker with a stone pendant.

Myha’la Herrold pioneered the lace trend as one of the first after party attendees to arrive on Sunday in a periwinkle gown straight from the Valentino spring 2026 runway. The ethereal design, imagined by Alessandro Michele, featured gold detailing throughout the skirt, which covered her bare legs and pointed-toe mary jane pumps on the carpet. Her hair was tied loosely behind her back and parted over the left side of her head.

Sunday night’s Vanity Fair Oscar Party followed the 98th annual Academy Awards, honoring the best films of 2025 from “One Battle After Another” to “Sinners” and more. Hosted by Conan O’Brien, who returned for a second consecutive year as master of ceremonies, the awards show took place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. “One Battle After Another” claimed the top prize for best picture, while acting winners included best actress recipient Jessie Buckley and best actor Michael B. Jordan.
