Cryptodrassus michaeli is a stealthy ground spider in the Gnaphosidae family. There are around 2,500 different species of ground spiders. One well-known member of the ground spider family is the Eastern Parson spider, which is common in North America.

Cryptodrassus michaeli is only about 3 millimeters long, much smaller than many other species of ground spiders. A video of the spider appears on the Associated Press (AP) YouTube Channel. Jordi Moya-Laraño, research scientist at the Spanish Research Council, told the AP, “It is a new species and the particularity of this species is that it is very tiny compared to others in their family.”
