UN says Russian missile hit aid warehouse in Ukraine’s Dnipro

A Russian airstrike on the Ukrainian city of Dnipro destroyed aid supplies belonging to the UN refugee agency worth more than $1 million, the Geneva-based organization said on Friday.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said 900 pallets of aid supplies and materials for emergency shelters were destroyed when a Russian missile hit the rented warehouse.

It described the strike as the first such attack in more than four years of war between Russia and Ukraine.

Two people were also killed and several others injured in the attack on Wednesday, UNHCR said in a statement.

“The warehouse strike came amid a broader escalation of attacks across the country,” the refugee agency said, emphasizing that the number of civilian casualties resulting from Russian attacks has risen sharply this year.

The organization also criticized attacks on two “clearly marked” UN convoys with humanitarian workers last week in the Dnipropetrovsk and Kherson regions, one of which injured a truck driver.
