US: Wall St opens lower on last day of quarter as government shutdown looms


[NEW YORK] Wall Street’s main indexes opened lower on Tuesday (Sep 30), the final day of the third quarter, as investors fretted over likely delays in the release of key economic data due to a potential US government shutdown.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 33.4 points, or 0.07 per cent, at the open to 46,282.63.

The S&P 500 fell 5.0 points, or 0.08 per cent, at the open to 6,656.19​, while the Nasdaq Composite dropped 10.8 points, or 0.05 per cent, to 22,580.359. REUTERS
