‘We didn’t get there’: Trump says more work to do for Ukraine peace deal after summit with Putin
President Trump emerged from a three-hour summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin saying they were unable to reach a deal to end the war in Ukraine, but described the meeting as “extremely productive.”
“There’s no deal, until there is a deal,” Mr. Trump told reporters at a press conference with Mr. Putin. “We didn’t get there, but we have a very good chance of getting there.”
Mr. Trump said that both sides were close on the “most significant” difference between the two sides, but declined to say what that was or how large the gulf remains.
The U.S. president said that his next step was to call Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European allies and brief them on the talks with Mr. Putin.
