Carjacker Forgets To Release Handbrake, So Bystander Puts Him in Headlock and Snaps a Pic

A man in Perth, Australia, was out shopping when he suddenly noticed an individual attempting to allegedly flee with stolen drinks in a carjacked car. However, the man managed to capture the suspect’s failed attempt to flee, all thanks to the suspect’s inability to release the handbrake. He was ultimately placed in a headlock and arrested, not before the Good Samaritan of sorts snapped a selfie.

As reported by Perth Now, the incident occurred in Carine, a suburb in Perth. At the time, Adam Breen, a plumber known online as 4beanz_, was at a Dan Murphy’s liquor store picking up some items for his birthday party.

However, he soon came across an unusual sight. Reportedly, another fellow, dressed in high-visibility clothing, rushed out of the store with what is believed to be stolen liquor bottles.

Things would get more unusual and bizarre as the man in question rushed into a Mazda. The car didn’t belong to him, reports suggest, so Adam and everyone in the store were up to quite a spectacle.

Handbrake Much?

Adam followed the man closely and hit record on his phone. The footage, shared online by Brown Cardigan, shows him approaching the Mazda, which had no license plate.

Immediately, something went terribly wrong for the alleged thief and carjacker. The Mazda’s rear wheels were not moving at all. By the looks of it, the individual behind the wheel really struggled to release the handbrake.

Adam couldn’t believe what he was seeing and resorted to laughing. He said, “You are joking me, eh? Come on now,” as he threw a thumbs-up to the driver.

Fleeing Fails

The man continued to drive the handbrake-enabled car, leaving track marks behind him. The vehicle only moved for a few feet before the suspect drove into the sidewalk.

Adam continued recording from a distance, and his video shows the suspect exiting the car and trying to figure out what was going on. The plumber then told him from afar that the handbrake was on.

Perth Now detailed that the man eventually ditched the Mazda and even attempted to nab another vehicle. That’s when Adam decided to intervene.

Selfie Time!

As per 7News, Adam chased down the alleged carjacker and eventually scuffled with him, putting him in a headlock on the ground. That’s when he managed to snap a selfie of him while conducting his citizen’s arrest on the man, and even another bystander took a second photo of him giving another thumbs-up while the now-subdued man sported a grimace. Adam then uploaded both photos on his Instagram.

As a result of the physical struggle, Adam was left with a black eye. Regardless, he believes it was all worth it, as police soon responded to the area and arrested the non-handbrake-savvy man.

And to put some sprinkles on the top of an already unique experience, Adam, now regarded as a hero, said that the now-arrested man soiled himself. Fortunately, the plumber didn’t get the short end of that stick.
